About

We are a creative team specializing in public sculpture, functional design, and community integrated installation. Based in Maryland, we have completed projects for public institutions, architects, and private clients. Being natives of the Baltimore Metro Area, our respective studio practice is tied to and influenced by the landscape.

Christian Benefiel

Christian is inspired by the systematic structure of culture, interpersonal relationships and civilization. Aesthetically, he is rooted in the maritime, contemporary craft, and the constructed landscape. Christian is a US Fulbright Scholar and continues to teach special topics at the University of The Arts Helsinki, where he researched sustainability and using biofuel in the modern foundry. He was an inaugural Hamiltonian Fellow and has done community projects with the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, The Mariners Museum in Norfolk, VA, Jackson County Green Energy Park in Sylva, NC, and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally. He is the director of Welding and Fabrication at Chesapeake College. More info [here]

Ryan McKibbin

Ryan is an Instructor at Rhinehart School of Sculpture and the Digital Fabrication Studios Manager at MICA. Ryan came to MICA in 2014 where he designed and oversaw the renovation of the Mt. Royal Train Station into the Digital Fabrication Studio in 2015. Previously, Ryan has held appointments with Catholic University of America in the Department of Architecture. While at CUA, Ryan served as Faculty Advisor for Fabrication of Team Capitol DC’s Harvest Home entry for the Solar Decathlon.
