This work is placed between the math and science classrooms for the 7th grade students. The form is generated by taking elevation points and GPS coordinates across the Appalachian Trail through the state of Maryland. The topography of the work is generated using wooden lath and substructure with epoxy resin saturation. Convex shells form the surface of peaks and valleys, with the intersection of the forms defining a trail. The structure of the work is visual representation of scientific observations of patterns formed through geology, crystal precipitation and evaporation, and represented in the scientific visualization of cartography and topography.
