This work is placed in the reading room on the top floor of Benjamin Banneker High School in Washington DC. Named after early American astronomer and mathematician, this school is a public high school focused on STEM education in The District. Originally titled The Universe In 26 Parts, it is comprised of interlocking wooden rings referencing the 26 letters of the English alphabet and the 26 dimensions outlined in early versions of string theory. The cell structure and truncated circular visually reference growth and binary fission, open space in the sculpture and title imply the potential for expansion, both mentally and physically. There are 25 parts in the sculpture, including a space that can be occupied, the occupant is the 26th part, an individual integrated into their environment.
